In the Gregg Reference Manual, 9th edition by William Sabin (Dec 1999),
paragraph 1358:

QUOTE

e. bulleted items in a list. Instead of numbers or letters, you can use
bullets before the items in a list. Withword processing software, you can
choose from a variety of styles to create bullets. For example

..

If you use the automatic bullet insert feature, the default position of the
bullet is at the left margin and the text and any turnovers are
automatically indented (as in the illustration below). If you prefer, you
can position the bullets 0.5 inch from the left margin by pressing the tab
before activating the bullet feature.

(illiustration)

UNQUOTE

I was unable to find information on bullets in the Chicago Manual of Style,
14th edition.

I normally have one line before and after the bulleted list, with the
bulleted list indented 0.5 inch. That is, if your tab is set at 0.5 inch,
otherwise it is the setting of your tab stops.
