For those who want to read the original George Miller/John Hayes paper on
the "magical number seven", here's a URL:

Note as you read that the number seven is mentioned as having almost
mystical qualities, as it shows up often in human interactions. That
mysticism seems to appeal to a great many tech comm'ers.
