elisaignatius -at- tdmc -dot- com (Elisa Ignatius) is looking for
recommendations to decide whether to attend the STC or
TechComm conference this year.
Last year, based on recommendations from this list, I attended
TechComm99. These were not comparison recommendations, as
due to deadlines I couldn't attend the STC conference. You'll
probably find messages in the archive about both conferences.
I was very pleased with TechComm99 and recommend other
TechComm conferences. There were many worthwhile sessions
and a few excellent speakers. I came back with a number of ideas
that have helped me resolve documentation issues over the past
year.
TechComm does not try to be all things to all people - Solutions,
Inc. runs other conferences to deal with other issues. For example,
WinHelp (HTMLhelp, etc.) is the topic of a separate conference.
TechComm is geared towards intermediate and senior technical
writers; Solutions runs a week-long "clinic" geared towards Junior
technical writers and also runs a week-long publications
management conference.
