TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
ForeHelp and RoboHELP are both help development tools that use Microsoft
Help Compiler Workshop to create WinHelp .HLP files (Doc-to-Help and HDK are
two more tools like this). In essence, FH and RH "sit on top of" HCW,
providing an easier-to-use interface.
Because both applications are merely fancy WinHelp development tools, you
can open a ForeHelp project in RoboHELP by dragging a ForeHelp project's
HPJ file onto your RoboHELP icon (or by opening the .HPJ via RH Explorer's
File menu). RoboHELP will then automatically generate .DOC files from the
ForeHelp .RTFs. It might not necessarily go smoothly on the first try, so
you will definitely want to make a backup of your FH project first.
The bottom line: You do NOT need a third tool to convert from ForeHelp to
RoboHELP, since they are BOTH WinHelp-based tools.
If you have any more questions, or want more detailed pointers for doing
this, please don't hesitate to ask off-list (or on, if you prefer).
Good luck!

Subject: Forehelp to Robohelp
Another writer here has been given a set of Forehelp Files and needs to
convert them to Robohelp. None of us has ever worked with Forehelp, so my
question:
Is there an easy way to convert? Or a tool that makes conversion easier?
Do you need to have Forehelp to export the files in a format that Robohelp
can recognize?
Thanks,
Richard Wollt
