10. Being able to write well is only about 33% of the
job. Being able to understand the technology is only
about 33% of the job. The other half is winning
friends and influencing people.
9. The job is a pain in the butt. If it were easy,
everyone would be doing it. If you can persist in
doing well when it's a pain in the butt, you will
succeed.
8. Preparation is vital. Be prepared for whatever
you're likely to be doing and you will be able to
handle it.
7. Tools aren't as important as understanding the
concepts behind them.
6. Trying to outlast those around you is often a good
strategy.
5. Your skin should be as thick as you wish your
wallet were.
4. Have a rational reason for everything you do and
for everything you push for. If you can rationally
explain it, most people will go for it.
3. Being right is not the most important thing in the
world.
2. Try your best to enjoy what you're doing. It will
change your perspective.
1. Be lavish with your praise and honest with the
people around you. Always deliver correction as an
opportunity to improve. When you have to deliver
disagreeable news start first with the areas of
agreement; they are usually larger than you think.
