Elizabeth Sprague described an issue with 'Page x of y' footers.
Hi Elizabeth,
Go to Tools->Options, click the Print tab and then select Update Fields.
With this option selected, Word will update all fields (including your 'x'
and 'y' numbers) immediately before printing. Although you may still get
"Page 2 of 1" etc. on screen, your footer should be OK on paper. If you
already have this option selected, then you may have a corrupted document.
HTH,
