I agree that the term "Reset" is the one to be used here.
That's the term we use for an identical function in the Web-based software I
am documenting.
BTW, I don't think it's a geeky term. After it's explained once, the average
user will understand its use and meaning. Just make sure you define the term
and explain what it does to any unsaved entries.
Rant: Now if you really want to use a geeky term, try Submit or Commit
instead of Save. As an earlier poster stated, these terms should be banished
from GUIs and docs aimed at average users. I guess I don't understand how a
tech writer who is interested in clear communication with their average user
audience would opt for introducing terms such as Submit or Commit when the
perfectly good and clearly understandable Save is already available and used
in a gazillion applications. Just because the developers used Oracle
(substitute your favorite software development tool) to build the software,
that's no reason to inflict Oracle terminology on the average user audience.
