"Callouts" are the arrow and text labels that explain the various parts of an
image, such as a screen shot of a software window.
I guess the term comes from magazine or newsletter formatting when one pulls a
quote or sentence out of the body of the article, wraps the text around it, and
hope that it draws attention (or "calls out") to the reader.
