I believe it was Rear Admiral Grace Hopper who said the following about taking
action:
"If you've walked around it a bit, and it's for the good of the ships at sea, go
ahead and do it. It's easier to apologize than to ask permission."
I think the key phrase here is "for the good of the ships at sea"; in other
words, if it gets the job done for the ultimate benefit of all involved, then
maybe it's the right thing to do.
And I'm only talking about getting a contract technical writing job done here,
folks - not murder, murdering rapists, or facing down a tank at Tiennaman
Square.
The really interesting question that no one seems to be asking is - did Andrew's
employer find out about Andrew's antics in the server room, and if so, what
happened?
