I've had a couple of replise off list to this question - may be of
interest to others:
1 (From Geoff Hart) Educated guess - could it be that you've resized
or cropped or otherwise adjusted the graphic in another application (and
particularly an Adobe application such as PageMaker)? If so, the link
information showing the relationship between the two programs (i.e.,
between the Illustrator file and the application that's using it) may be
what's telling Illustrator that you've made changes.
2 (From Dick Margulis) - Sounds like you have linked the illustration
into a document (Word? FrameMaker?
PageMaker?) and happen to have that document open at the time you are
updating the picture in Illustrator. If that's the case, what you are
seeing is normal, if annoying, behavior.
Second was the case here as I was updating lots of graphics and jumping
between Illustrator and FrameMaker.
