I've found great advantages using a combination of Adobe's FrameMaker 6.0
(www.adobe.com) and Quadralay's WebWorks Publisher (Professional Edition).
(www.webworks.com). (I'm not on payroll at either company, BTW, just a
satisfied customer)
Frame is very stable, and Frame files can be used on Window, Mac OR Unix.
Also, Frame links and autonumbering do not break, regardless of file size.
WebWorks allows you to convert your source content (frame files and
graphics) into HTML (3.2 or 4.0) XHTML, XML, WinHelp, JavaHelp, HTML Help
and, especially, WebWork's Help 2.0, which is a cross-browser,
multi-platform help-set.
If you're looking for versatility, this tool-combination might prove most
helpful.
