I don't know if this is valid or not, but earlier this year, I started
getting ganglion cysts on my wrists. The doctor said that they were due to
my working on a computer all the time. He suggested getting one of those
gel-type wrist and mouse pads. They have been a godsend in my opinion. I
went and bought one for my parents and basically everyone I know. The hard
foam rubber type wrist and mouse rests are not as good and are as bad as
putting your hand on the desktop I've found.

I had the operation on my right wrist seven years ago. Now my left wrist is
giving me trouble i.e., pain at night, numbness in the thumb and index
finger, and a tendency to things). When I went to a physiatrist for an EMG,
he advised me to take 50mg of Vitamin B6 daily and wear a wrist splint
throughout the night. I haven't been taking B6 long enough to notice any
improvement yet, but it is worth a try.
I also use a ergonomic split, keyboard along with a wrist rest. It really
helps. It takes a week or so to adapt to the keyboard, but it is well worth
it!
