Subject:PDF Embedded in Word as Icon? From:KMcLauchlan -at- chrysalis-its -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 9 Nov 2000 12:06:27 -0500
Hi all.
A cow-orker has a PDF and no original source doc.
He's written a Word doc, that he wants to distribute.
The PDF is good background material.
He wants to know if it is possible to include the
PDF in the Word doc, in the form of an active icon.
He wants it embedded, not referencing an external file.
That is, the icon sits in his Word text, but if the
recipient double-clicks the icon, it tries to invoke
the nearest Acrobat and display the PDF.
I'm not a Word guy. I don't think PDFs act
as OLE objects, do they?
I didn't exactly tell him he was insane, I just
suggested that he make a PDF out of his Word doc,
and then combine the two PDFs in Acrobat. Not the
effect he wanted, but gets the combination to his
readers without using two files (his requirement).
My way also guarantees that the recipient/reader
has Acrobat reader before reading anything. :-)
He's not happy.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
