TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Engineers writing back and forth to each other, and having dialogues? What
an interesting idea. OK, enough sarcasm.
I assume you are not referring to software engineering or programming, where
there are many sites on the web related to various programming languages,
OSs, etc., not to mention the vendor sites. My suggestions are to first
search the web with search engines and keywords. In addition, various
engineering organizations like IEEE and SAE have their own web sites where
you should be able to find links to other places of interest to you. Then,
try Usenet newsgroups, again searching Usenet with various keywords of
interest to you. If you find any related newsgroups, you can post questions
there asking for more information. Most Usenet users are pretty cooperative.
If all that fails, you might try looking at the web sites of major
engineering universities/colleges to see if there are any good links or
people (like professors) there you can contact for information. That's about
all I can think of off the top of my head on a Friday morning.
