Subject:Misc.: Usability of the Florida ballots From:"Hart, Geoff" <Geoff-H -at- MTL -dot- FERIC -dot- CA> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Wed, 29 Nov 2000 10:50:21 -0500
Since there's been a fair bit of discussion posted concerning the problems
with the Florida ballot, I thought I'd contribute an interesting analysis of
the issue based on usability studies and some basic cognitive psychology. I
don't agree with everything in the article, but the author makes some very
good points, and his free e-mail newsletter makes for very good reading. For

"Technical writing... requires understanding the audience, understanding
what activities the user wants to accomplish, and translating the often
idiosyncratic and unplanned design into something that appears to make
sense."--Donald Norman, The Invisible Computer
