True, but that depends on how you define value.
On a personal level, I'm always delighted when I make a connection
that I didn't see before. That new connection creates even more
possible connections, so it's valuable in that way, even if it's not
much use in itself.
In fact, I strongly suspect that, for every valuable connection I
make, I also make four or five irrelevant ones. Since experts in
creativity always say that you shouldn't be too critical too early
in brainstorming, I suspect that I'm not the only one to be that
inefficient - and that that inefficiency may be necessary for the
valuable to emerge.
