TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Thanx for the input. However, there wasn't really an answer to the question,
except the same thing I've heard - that there's only so much you can do with
screenshots, especially when they have to be scaled.
Here's the scoop:
- Have two versions, one full-size for screen and one scaled for screen/pdf
(the problem here is full-size is too big for screen and pdfs - they're 11
inches, the big ones!!)
- Use sections of the screen, or full-size once then sections
(doesn't work 'cos each screen's only described once, doesn't make sense to
break it down at this point)
- Make a higher resolution, so the image is smaller
(I don't seem to get any better results with this either - the image isn't
smaller, and even when I scale it much less (85%) than the bmp (60%) it looks
about the same. this is at 300 dpi, even)
so much for wmf, far as I can tell!
