Communication skills certainly do take time to acquire, but the analysis
and design skills of a truly expert software engineer aren't exactly
simple to acquire either. I've learned a couple programming languages
pretty well and at one point took a shot a development. I soon learned I'd
only advanced to the equivalent skill level of writing a correct
sentence and, possiby, constructing a paragraph. The ability to deliver a
product that responded to even the simplest set of functional requirements
for a high performance production environment was not even in sight.
