We are technical writers--two words:
* technical - we're supposed to be able to handle technology
* writers - we're supposed to be able to write
Duh!
Regarding STC meetings, I think a mixture of technical topics with
writing/design topics would be good, as Andrew suggested. I'd like to see
basic industry summaries too. AT&T and other organizations construct courses
for their salespeople about basic industries like finance,
telecommunications, manufacturing, IT, and so on. These courses cover
industry history, structure, terminology, technology, markets, products,
associations, contacts, and issues. Maybe these should be offered through
STC as WBT or paid seminars. Having industry knowledge is invaluable in
securing work both as a free-lancer and staff person.
