>How do you deal with editors who fight over
>every sentence even though their own grasp of

>"orders" instead of guidance and reasoned advice,

The professional standard for editors is to supply writers with
authoritative reasons for their recommended changes. Such reasons may be
from _The Chicago Manual of Style_, _The Microsoft Manual of Style for
Technical Publications_, or any company-endorsed style authority.

>From what you've written, it sounds as if the problem is deeper than a wacko
editor. You may have to present your case to the boss of whoever it is that
is watching all this and allowing it to happen. I am assuming that you have
already discussed the problem with your immediate supervisor.
