I'm not sure this is required. I NEVER discuss what I made at previous
positions. It's none of the potential employers business what I was paid before.
That way you don't have to justify either a pay raise or a drop. (Or scare off
potential employers with sticker shock if your last contract was a lucky
strike.)
Market value for the position you are after/being offered has no relation to
your previous pay. Indeed any information you give can only hurt you. If they
think your previous pay was just right, they'll limit their offer to you. If it
was too low, they'll use it a a basis to low ball you again. If it was too high
they could be turned off. Anyways, in classic negotiation the first person to
give a number loses.
When presented with the stock HR questionaire all salaries both previous and
desired are listed "Market Value".
