    Some time ago, I looked into software offered as an aid to proposal
writing, but I didn't find much about which I could be enthusiastic. Some of
the stuff was so ponderous, I wondered whether using it would be a help or a
hindrance to writing a good proposal.

    It seems to me that there is a need for several kinds of
proposal-writing software, each designed for a different
application/purpose. I think the challenge to create  a single software
program to support any/all proposal writing would be futile because it would
be too ambitious.

    My thought would be a series of software programs, each designed to
handle a specific area or problem, such as strategy development, sales
arguments, and staffing. There is probably a need for maintainable
files--e.g., past project histories--that if maintained, could be easily
adapted to and plugged into the current proposal project.

    Other ideas? - Herm
