Hi back, Debby:
I'm posting this to TECHWR-L in case anybody else has wondered about it.
(I'll answer this provided that you satsify a long-held bit of curiosity on
my part: How does one pronounce the vowel "ø"? Is it like the German "ö"?
That, you can explain off-list.)
I hate to affirm that you're expecting too much of Word 97, but considering
that some of the coolest-sounding features don't work as they should, try
not to be too surprised. :o/
I created an index and, sure enough, there's no auto-hyperlink effect to
link from an index back to the original XE-tagged term. To make 97 do this,
I had to manually set a bookmark on the word, then go to its counterpart in
the index and set a hyperlink that points back to the indexed word.
Multiply all that activity by the number of words in your index, and you'll
get an idea of how much effort is required. :o(

Subject: Make index active in MS Word 97?
Hi Bill - I'm addressing you directly because you have answered other Word
questions.
I have created a TOC and Index in a Word 97 doc. When I click on a TOC
entry, it jumps to the relevant page. But the index entry does not.
The index entry is marked with the xe field code, as required. Am I
expecting too much, when I expect an index entry to be active like a TOC
entry?
Thanks in advance for your help.
