Coming out of lurk mode...

I was an apprentice judge for an STC contest a few
years ago. I was given this position ("apprentice")
because I didn't have any professional tech writing
experience - just education. I was assigned to a group
of experienced tech writers and we rated hardware
technical documents from HP, Apple and Sun.

It was a great experience for me. We were given a list
of criteria, and had to give a rating as well as an
explanation for each category. It was a good exercise
in working with other tech writers, following
directions, writing, and giving objective/constructive
feedback.

I am happy to say that this experience jumpstarted my
career. The woman that ran the competition referred me
to my first tech writing job.

That's how I broke in!! Or maybe that's another
thread...

OK - back to lurkville.

Michelle
