Well, I'd worry if I were you. Obviously, this new guy doesn't have a clue
about the issue, so he left it up to you. Not good advice from a corporate
attorney if you ask me.
Most style guides I've used say use it at the first instance in the title
(title tag or Heading 1 tag) and at the first occurence in the document. You
mileage may vary.
Thanks to his advice (he's leaving it up to "whatever is aesthetically
pleasing", your company will produce documents where:
1. The trademarks will appear in the title and at every instance
2. The trademarks will appear in the body only at every instance
3. The trademarks will appear in the title only
4. The trademarks will appear in the body only at the first instance
5. And who knows where else
He's done you a favor in a way so you can know select the preferred manner
by which to use copyright and trademark symbols in your style guide so all
your books are consistent in their use.
