Surfer,

You need a vacation! At very least, you need some diversion. Sounds like the
job has been taking over your life. No wonder you're feeling burnt out!

We've all been there. Contracting, for all its challenge and variety, isn't
necessarily the answer, either. It's just different.

Rather than plunging into a new environment (again) with all its attendent
stresses, DO SOMETHING NICE FOR YOURSELF! Take a day, even a weekend, and go
to a museum, take in a play (a real stage play, not just a movie), walk on a
beach (yes, I even go to Cape Cod in February), do a jigsaw puzzle...
anything that is out of the ordinary for you. It does wonders for your
perspective.

One of the major factors in burnout is the feeling that things are out of
your control. Doing something for yourself, taking that time, is one way to
TAKE control of at least one little part of your life. When you return to
work, at least you have something that's irrevocably YOURS. And your work
will be better because of the break.

If you're going to burn out, at least you should have marshmallows to toast!

Marguerite
