And Andrew answered:
I don't know ... I'd mutter "what a dick!" ...
Although you're right about one thing, attitude does matter.
I find that a "I've got that all under control, thanks for the input" attitude
works much better than the "you're stupid, I am a genius" attitude...
Now me again:
Granted, this approach should not be used by everyone and
should not be used on everyone. Certainly, cooperation and
a gracious attitude are the ideal. But there are some people
who are dicks in their own right -- who think that "anybody
can write" and that the pubs department makes arbitrary
decisions just to make their lives miserable. Those are
the people to use this approach on.
And it isn't really a "you're stupid and I'm a genius" approach.
It's a way of saying "I'm just as professional as you are and
before you go challenging my decisions arbitrarily, you need to
know that they're based on solid research, not whim." Call it
a way to answer the "you're stupid and I'm a genius" approach
used by someone else.
