Re: Framemaker to PDF frustrataions
Hi Guys,
I'm in the process of developing a user manual using Adobe Framemaker 6.0.
I'm using screenshots of the application captured from Snagit, which I then
copy into the Frame document. Some of the screenshots are large, and have to
be reduced in size to fit the page.
The screenshots look great in FrameMaker, but when I convert to PDF, they
come out Blurry (both on screen and paper. Very frustrating stuff.
I'm sure some of you guys have come across this problem. Any suggestions on
how to improve the graphics quality when I convert to PDF?
First, subscribe to the Framers lists.
Framers mailing list, a medium-volume mutual-support list for sharing questions, horror stories, bewilderment, hopes, and good information about FrameMaker (on all platforms). The
list is now run commercially by Brad Anderson.
To subscribe, send a message tomajordomo -at- frameusers -dot- com
with just the line subscribe framers with no name after
it, and no subject or signature. If you prefer the digest format, use
instead: subscribe framers-digest
Free Framers mailing list, a low-volume mutual support list run strictly as an old-fashioned
non-commercial list by Omni Systems. To subscribe, send a message tomajordomo -at- omsys -dot- com
with just the line subscribe framers with no name after it, and no subject or signature. If you prefer the digest format, use instead: subscribe framers-digest
Now, your question.
Check your job options in Distiller. Go the the Compression tab in Job Options, ensure that all graphics are compressed using Zip format. I prefer using the 8-bit. It increases size but retains more infomation.
Your settings are probably using JPEG compression which is a lossy (loses detail information) while Zip is a lossless ( does not lose detail information) compression method.
