In this recent long boom, people have forgotten that not only are the stock
markets cyclical but so is the business cycle, too. Even the best go through
lean times. You just have to keep plugging.
One thing you might consider (and you probably have) is calling old clients or
people whose business you couldn't take in the past to let them know that you
do have some project slots now available. It doesn't have to be a hard sell
call, just a friendly reminder that you exist and would be more than happy to
consider any projects they have hanging fire.
I forget who it was who first told me that the phone can work both ways. <g> It
was good advice, and I think it still is.
Perhaps some of the other freelancers, consultants, and contractors can share
how they make contacts periodically to keep their names in front of those
doling out the projects. Might be an interesting thread.
