RE: state of TWers

The thing is.......tech writers in particular are NOT having problems.......it's everyone.  The economy is going to hell in a handbasket, and there are layoffs galore (and not only in the tech sector).

In this type of environment, is it really all that surprising that supposedly overhead functions (i.e., those that are not seen as contributing directly to revenue) are the first to get left off and forgotten?  I'm not necessarily saying that I feel that if you are "captive," you should worry about your job (ask me again in three months), but as a contractor, things are going to be hurting for awhile, I'm afraid.

Just my opinion.

Hi. I saw some posts recently from Andrew, et al, and I know work is
booming in California, but I've been hearing "horror" stories from some
writer friends here in the Midwest (Upper--Minnesota, not Chicago). I've
been hearing that there are no contracts, and every recruitment agency
I've spoken to has many writers on the bench and numerous jobs "on
hold".

Currently I'll be looking for a contract in about 2 weeks, but does
anyone know why tech writers in particular are having problems?
