<Darren Barefoot asked about conferences in the UK/Europe.>
In the UK the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC) =
hold a conference every year at the end of September (28th-30th this =
year). I've been to the last 3/4 now and have found them both useful =
and enjoyable. Relatively small scale with sessions ranging from the =
very good to the not so good (as with most conferences) but the =
standard, on the whole has been quite high. They're also running a Tech =
Pubs and Technology seminar next month. For details of these, and the =
ISTC in general, visit the web site at www.istc.org.uk
It's also probably worth having a look at www.tc-forum.org The idea for =
TC-Forum evolved during Forum 95 which was an international conference =
organised by the international TW umbrella organisation INTECOM. As the =
Forum conferences are held every 5 years TC-Forum (magazine) was =
launched to keep momentum going between conferences. They usually have =
a professional events section with upcoming conferences etc. Planning =
ahead, it's been decided that 5 years is too big a gap so the next is in =
2003, in Milan I think.
Finally I'd look at the STC chapters in the individual countries to see =
what is being organised there though you'd need to check the language =
used in the events.
