I worked for a company years ago that used to hand out this type of list for
their biannual "performance self-assessment". The "safe" response was always
3: if you claimed to be high or low, you would be asked to justify this. New
employees were warned about this by cow-orkers before they had to fill in
their first performance review. The result was completely meaningless as a
self-assessment, but an interesting way to fill in an hour or so listening
to your manager explain each of your ratings to you. Interesting, that is,
in the same way as having your skin raked off your flesh with a red-hot iron
comb is "interesting". You were at no risk of falling asleep.
