TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I take the contrary position (what else is new?). I always volunteer to review legal documents after the lawyers are done drafting them. Invariably I can catch errors, clean up and simplify language (when that is a desirable thing to do), and ask questions that lead both lawyers and managers to rethink what it is they are trying to accomplish. Beyond that, I can conform the documents to company style and design standards, so they reflect well on our overall image with the customer.
I realize this is not the same situation anon is in. But by proposing to help AFTER the stoooopid managers hire a lawyer, you can show yourself to be an enthusiastic team play rather than just someone who stamps his or her foot and refuses to do something you are asked to do.
