That's an interesting question. Our distribution strategy may not be helpful
for those selling software, but here it is.

We sell hardware. We provide a CD with our hardware that contains the
supporting software (Windows and various flavors of *nix), utilities, and
documentation for all our products, not just the product that the CD
accompanies. We have an HTML menu page that starts automatically when the CD
is accessed that shows all the stuff that is on the CD, including the PDFs
available, and has links to the web site copies of things as well. The
customer then has the choice of whether to copy the PDF onto his machine and
where to copy it. The PDF is accessed by the customer independently of any
of our products. Our customers tend to be system administrators, fairly
knowledgeable.
