Wow...STC Conference time again.

Out of curiosity I just scanned through the ENTIRE list of workshops and
presentations at the annual STC conference in Chicago.

I can't say I am totally surprised, but Not a SINGLE workshop dealt with
content related issues. The only one that looked remotely technical was
about Object Oriented Programming by Susan Gallagher (whom I don't know).

How on earth can a society of -->TECHNICAL<-- writers and communicators
have an entire annual conference and not offer a single workshop on
technical issues? I mean, the standard fair of "get organized" and
"managing people" workshops are a part of any conference where people just
want to pontificate. But come on - couldn't they get at least ONE track of
content related issues.

For example - why isn't there a workshop on writing API Reference Guide? I
would LOVE to learn how other organizations do it. Why not one on doing
network and flow-chart diagrams? How about a "issues facing tech writers
in retail organizations?"

Its all "Unleashing your Genius" and "Organizing the Completely Mundane
Aspects of Your Extremely Puny Life"

Jeez! Could STC possibly get a few more layers removed from actual
writing? Perhaps the 49th annual event will feature REALLY important
stuff like "What to Wear to Work" and "Why you Need an Even More Expensive
Desk"

Well, needless to say, you won't see me at this year's convention. Until
STC can start offering something more substantive than this... I don't see
how they're ever going to get my business. I am going to spend my money
this year going to Interop+Networld in Las Vegas so I can actually learn
about technology issues. (Actually, I might have a booth there!)

PS: Yes, I would love to do such a content track and would even help
organize it. But no way am I going to **PAY** STC for the honor of
attending the conference. As you know, speakers have to pay their way into
the conference, which is total BS. If you donate that much time an energy
to their conference, the least they can do is not be insulting and demand
you PAY to attend.

PPSS: I know, I know...good riddance. You didn't want me at there in the
first place. Well, I can make funny noises and dance too! Rock the Casbah!
