TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I've taken the MBTI two times, several years apart in very different stages
of my life. The first time I was working on the assembly line in a car
parts factory, and the second time was in a undergrad writing class (which
was, BTW, taught by Barry Maid, who delurked a few days ago to comment on
this thread). Both times, I was an ENTP.
I took a computerized Keirsey test sometime during the years in between, and
it classified me differently on 2 or 3 of the areas. I would have thought
that it was a major change in my personality type if the second MBTI hadn't
come out the same as the first.

I found a similar test online, the Keirsey test. It's free to take and get
part of your results, but it costs $10 to find out your entire personality
type. I tested and found out I was an ISTJ which is supposedly suited for
technical writing, computer programmer, computer operator, CIO, engineer,
police officer, legal secretary, geologist, accounting, file clerk, stock
broker, real estate agent, lawyer, electrician, school bus driver and an
efficiency expert. So much for narrowing career choices.
