In general I agree with Andrew, and I too would prefer a more technical
conference (and probably won't be in Chicago). But I did see a some
content-related sessions:
* Strategies for Communicating Risk
* Yesterday API Was Just Another Acronym; Today I Have to Document One!
* Oh, Oh, The Job Ad says OO! (about object-oriented programming)
* An Overview of Science and Medical Writing
* How to Approach a Systems and Programming Documentation Project (writing
documentation for programmers, I think)
* Designing Safety Information: Balancing Hazards and Solutions
* Generating Reference Manuals from Comments in the Code (geared towards API
documentation)
* Progression Session of Scientific Communication (includes speakers from
Eli Lilly, NASA and Radford)
* The ABCs of Medical Communication
* Policies and Procedures Writing (maybe not emphasis on "science/IT" tech,
but another type of content)
* Science Communication of Global Climate Change
* Issues in Scientific Communication
* Careful Scientific Writing
* Rulemaking, Public Policy, and Regulatory Writing
No, I'm still not attending the STC conference. I did think about it,
especially for the medical topics, but what I really want is a conference
that is either 100% content or 75% content and a small amount on tools,
general writing methods, etc.
