The term I'm looking for is one of the figures of speech; the figures of
this type don't stand alone by themselves as jargon do. They're adjectives,
used to convey added meaning through the use of a relatively esoteric
reference. The term is itself a noun, just as hyperbole or metaphor are
nouns.
I'm wondering if the term is _metaphor_, but I doubt it...
