2) We have to pick a place. My feeling is that whomever agrees to manage the
organization and mechanics of putting on the conference gets to pick the
location. If it were me, I would put it on in either Phoenix, AZ, [cut]
mainly because they are reasonably large cities and reasonably inexpensive
to stay.

Re: Phoenix. There are Phoenician TWs on this list, so they can speak with
more authority than I. After living in Phoenix for only four years, I can
heartily vote "yes" for this locale. I love it. However, during the "snow
bird" and spring training baseball season (Nov. - May), hotel rates hit the
sky. For those reasonable rates, book after Memorial Day Weekend, usually in
a full summer month (July or August). Yes, the temperatures could be 111 to
117 degrees, but the conference would be inside. Just wanted to offer a
reality check. Also, Tucson--for our writer friends at Intuit--is a
beautiful place and is about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. A quick
drive up to the pines at nearby Mt. Lemon provides a great break from the
heat.

7) We need 5 to 10 speakers who will talk about cool, techie stuff. My
thoughts: I would love somebody to talk about XML. I'd also be interested in
hearing about Linux and some general "ideas in documenting complex web
applications" or something like that.

Well, if y'all go for a two-day conference, let's make it Thursday and
Friday. Then, my husband and I could enjoy Saturday and Sunday restfully at
the chosen locale. As for talking about the cool, techie stuff, how about a
two-day conference on XML only? I lurk a lot, and contribute to the list
some, and it seems to me that many TWs are "concerned" about XML. People
want to get on the XM fast track. So, how about that idea, gang? How about a
two-day XML conference?
