TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.

Several people have made similar comments, suggesting that no test could
encompass all aspects of technical writing.
I can't help wondering if this difficulty isn't exaggerated. After all,
professional associations tht have certification manage. So do
university courses. Specialized knowledge simply has its own test.
Of course, there are problems, such as keeping the tests current, or
adding a new test when it's needed. But they're not insurmountable, by
any means (especially when we're only talking on a theoretical basis :-)
