TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I was asked (just today) to take minutes in a meeting that does not relate
to me at all and has nothing to do with technical or writing. I did this
once and did not like the feeling of being asked to do something that one of
our admin. people can do (and we have several). Plus, I had quite a bit of
technical writing to get done. I simply told my boss that I was not a good
note taker in meetings. I told him I get too involved in the discussion and
forget that I'm actually supposed to be taking the minutes. Believe it or
not, he bought it and took the minutes himself and said he would get an
admin. person to do it the next time.
I guess I got out of this one.

I was asked to make coffee once. I told the person I didn't know how. He
didn't believe me, so I made some. I was never asked to make any coffee
after that.
Use the secret TW recipe for coffee. Just double the amount of coffee beans
needed. And, always make a fresh pot even if you have to empty the pot. They
will leave you to your real work after that.
