For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I agree with narrower certifications, but not in content areas. You can
pursue certification in subject matter through the vendors (e.g., Cisco,
MS, etc.). It would be more useful to certify expertise in areas of
technical writing, such as usability, information design, online help, etc.
And we already have a SIG structure within STC to implement this idea.
