Subject:Setting Up "Ghost" Doc Department From:"Robert B Kennedy" <bobbykennedy44 -at- home -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Tue, 24 Apr 2001 14:06:07 -0400
Hi Whirlers,
I've been asked to set up a doc department
for a "startup" company based in NYC
where I've worked (as a contractor) since
January, 2001, but which I'm leaving in 2-3 months.
This firm is almost a year old, has 650 folks,
and is owned largely by a _huge_ media company
in England. (I would like to say more about the
firm, but don't want to make it easily identifiable.)
NOTE: I'M THE SOLE TECH WRITER IN THE ENTIRE FIRM.
(There are no outstanding specs. for writers, but I'm told
they will be added "in a few months' time.")
So, I've been asked to create some plan for tech
writers to follow me; IMPORTANT: it should
provide "SELF-HELP" assistance to the various
departments in the interim.
QUESTION: Following are some of the areas I'd
like to cover on the company Intranet.
__Can anyone add to this list?__
Intranet TOPICS:
+ Company legal notices (disclaimers, NDA, etc.)
+ Links to online resources (dictionary, thesaurus, etc)
+ Word and PPT Templates (tips for using on shared drive)
+ List of Acronyms
+ Company Usage Guide (e.g., MS Manual)
+ Glossary of Important Company Terms
+ Tips on Effective Writing Style (w. links)
+ Editing Checklist
