TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Not to be contrary, but certification should mean that we are better writers
than the people who hire us. This has nothing to do with what high schools
or colleges produce.
Certification is only one way to increase our professionalism. It is a
defensive measure. A more offensive means is to push forward with the body
of knowledge that we would need to know. Here we are again left with the STC
and a few other granting organizations. And, regardless of where you stand
on the conference issue, the STC has improved its research orientation over
the years. What research do we need that is outside that need by other
professions?
At some point our profession will have to be grounded in something more than
we are better writers than our peers.
