Keith,
I don't know if it is the "best" way, but the method I use to convert to PDF
from Word 97, which should also work with Word 2000, is to print-to-file
using Adobe's generic PS driver. I then pipe the resulting files into
Distiller. (You can even use the runfilex.ps file that comes with Distiller
to merge multiple ps files into a single PDF.)
Preparation
1. Download the latest Adobe Generic PS driver from their website.
2. Install the driver on your computer using the FILE: port.
3. OPTIONAL: Associate the *.PRN file extension with Adobe Distiller.
Printing/Conversion
1. Print the file(s) using the PS driver you installed. It will prompt you
for a filename and automatically add the PRN extension.
2. Open Distiller and configure it as desired.
3. Drag the *.PRN files you created onto Distiller.
Good luck.
