RE: Unambiguous dates (was: American English to British English)
Subject:RE: Unambiguous dates (was: American English to British English) From:KMcLauchlan -at- chrysalis-its -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 27 Apr 2001 16:11:42 -0400
Except where forced to comply by idiot forms, and
until further notice (or year 2013, whichever comes
first) I intend to write dates as yyyy/mm/dd.
Could anybody possibly be confused by that? Brits?
Americans? (Certainly not Canadians...)
Why year 2013, you ask?
(Oh c'mon. SOMEone did. I heard a voice from the back...)
Because there's no 13th month, so I can almost-safely
go back to two-digit years. As for the possibility
of confusion by the "day-month-year" crowd, well I
think another 12 years from today is more than enough
time for them to have learned and profited from my
good example, so screw 'em if they're still avoiding
enlightenment.
So, why wait that long in the first place? Well, it's
for the other gang. Anybody who would write shortform
dates with the month first, by choice, is bound to be
a little slow on the uptake, don't you agree?
(What's the "smiley"/"emoticon" for a big, toothy grin?)
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Friday-
afternoon work-avoidance measures.
