The place to research this question is not here. The place
to research this question is the style guide of the GUI that
you are documenting. For example, for Microsoft products,
"check box" is two words. For Java applications, it is one
word. If you're documenting an original GUI invented at
your company, you (and your fellow writers/editors/engineers)
get to decide!
