You're both wrong and right. My original post talked about the computer industry,
not specifically Silicon Valley. With Dell and Compaq and Gateway and other
computer makers laying off thousands, I think it's safe to say that the slow economy
is industry-related, and only incidentally geographic. Because Silicon Valley is so
computer-centric, obviously we're feeling the slowdown more than perhaps other areas
of the country. And since technology and computer-related development led the
economy of the country for the last 8 years or so, yes Silicon Valley experienced a
large part of the resulting prosperity.
