TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
At the risk of of appearing a total anthropoid, I have found this to be very
useful way of getting information out of recalcitrant SMEs - indeed they
often *prefer* it to other mechanisms (like writing feature specs or
spending hours being interviewed).
I agree that it shouldn't be the sole means of communication, but it has
definitely helped me in the past, particularly when schedules were tight and
specifications had yet to be written. In an ideal world maybe it shouldn't
happen, but.....
Regards (or should that be "OOK-OOK-EEK!"? :-)
