Response:
As you imply, however, there are many other people in this situation besides
military spouses, yet military spouses are often subject to greater
discrimination.
In the U.S., it is illegal for a prospective employer to specifically ask
anything about your family situation, so there's no reason to mention that
your spouse is military.
I've been lucky in that all of my non-contract jobs lasted at least two
years, so my resume usually doesn't raise any job-hopping questions. I do
get asked, "What brings you to (name of town)?" I say, "Spouse relocation."
If I am in a military town, they know what caused my spouse to relocate, but
they don't care, because the military is what's keeping their town afloat
and brining them good civilian employees as a bonus. If I am in a larger,
more economically diverse city, they have no idea who relocated my husband,
and they usually know that it's none of their business.
You could just as easily say, "I moved here to be closer to my family."
